FAQ

Who is organizing Playground?

Playground is the passion project of Samantha Fraser, author & educator from Not Your Mother’s Playground. Together with her co-producer JP Robichaud, they have been bringing Playground to Toronto since 2011.

Are you looking for volunteers?

Not anymore for 2015, thanks!

If you’re interested, please shoot us an email telling us what days / times you’re available from November 10 – 15, along with a list of your specialties and interests. If social media / writing is your bag, please include links to show off your stuff / networks!

Who can present at Playground?

We are looking for amazing people, passionate about sexuality, and relationships to share their knowledge. Whether you have an individual presentation, a panel idea or a workshop suggestion, we are excited for your input. Playground is a sexuality event for all we welcome a diverse range of suggestions.

If you don’t have a specific topic in mind, but think you can add valuable insight to a panel as a speaker or moderator, please don’t hesitate to let us know that as well!

Will presenters receive compensation?

We recognize the hard work and dedication that presenters put into sex education and know that it is often a low or barely paying job. We currently do not have the funds to pay speakers so presenters will receive free access to all of Playgrounds events as a thank you for their participation.

What is the content going to be at Playground?

Everyone has their own ideas on sexuality and relationships. Playground will be a homebase for fun discussions and ideas to flow, uniting us in both our similarities and differences. You can expect to find a range of topics covered from vanilla to kink, from dating to marriage, from monogamy to non-monogamy and much more. In addition to our presentations and panels, we will be hosting first-come first-served workshops and seminars for up to 30 people at a time in the smaller rooms. There will always be something going on to keep you entertained!

Is this going to be a sex event?

While we will be discussing some pretty racy topics, Playground is not a sex event. We are there to learn, have fun and share ideas, not take our clothes off and get raunchy. If that’s your plan, the Holiday Inn has plenty of great rooms to enjoy yourself in, after sessions wrap for the day!

Do you have an anti-harassment policy?

Playground is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference [without a refund] at the discretion of the conference organizers. Our full policy can be found here.

Can my company sponsor / exhibit at Playground?

Absolutely! Playground is fueled by passion, ticket sales and donations from the community. If you would like to help out in either a monetary or goods donation, please visit our sponsorship page. We also have a few exhibit/vendor tables available for rent during the entire conference.

Who can attend?

Playground aims to bring together people from all walks of life to discuss sexuality and relationships in a relaxed environment where every guest will feel safe, respected and part of the fun. No matter your relationship status, sexual identity or gender preference; everyone, 18 +, is welcome to play!

How much does it cost?

Regular tickets are on sale for $100, but you can also buy individual day passes and individual session passes. That’s an entire weekend of amazing and inspiring presentations for the cost of a workshop or two.

Are students allowed?

Students are more than welcome to join us at Playground. We sell full weekend and individual session tickets with student prices. You MUST present a valid student ID at registration to receive your student badge, otherwise you will be asked to pay the difference, no exceptions.

What is your refund / transfer policy?

We understand that circumstances change. Tickets are non-refundable (except in emergency circumstances up until November 3rd). Transfers are allowed up to October 25th. Please e-mail us to request this service.

What if I have privacy concerns? Will media be in attendance?

We take your comfort and security very seriously and as such will be verifying with every attendee before the event if they are ok with having their photo or video taken as well as the name they wish to have appear on their badges. We recognize that some people do not wish to have their images made public and will be color-coding badges to indicate willingness to be photographed. Video recording will be allowed only with prior approval of conference organizers. Sessions may be video recorded with only the presenter(s) in frame.

We depend upon the discretion of our attendees to adhere to this policy. If you are taking photos, you must first ask permission from your subject. Anyone who fails to adhere to this policy will be asked to leave the conference space immediately.
